Situated 100 miles southwest of Guadalajara at 1500 feet of elevation, the city of Colima is a growing hub that offers the best of old Mexico, along with the most modern amenities. It has a charming old world downtown with colonial architecture and centuries-old edifices, and a vibrant dining zone at the northern edge of the city with an eclectic blend of traditional Mexican establishments and modern fusion, Asian, Italian, Argentine, and sushi restaurants – and everything in between. With a bustling bar scene and a raft of clubs, there’s something for everyone only a few miles from El Encanto. And the state of the art Puerta de Hierro hospital is only six minutes from the community, as is the Colima hospital, on the same street.

If it’s margaritas and toes in the sand you crave, beach resorts are only thirty miles away, with Manzanillo sixty miles up the Pacific Coast, and the destination resort at Isla de Navidad (the Grand Bay Hotel is magnificent and boasts a state of the art marina) and across the water at Barra de Navidad eighty-five miles from Colima.

For a more picturesque experience, the nearby town of Comala is a few minutes northwest of El Encanto, and is one of Mexico’s coveted “Pueblo Magico” cultural sites.

The breathtakingly beautiful twin volcanoes along the Jalisco/Colima border, the Novado el Colima and Volcan de Colima, adorn the horizon to the northeast seventeen miles from the city, offering a one-of-a-kind landmark that’s the pride of the region, as are the numerous parks and wilderness areas that are a delight for the more athletic and adventurous residents.
